X-Shot – Turbo Fire

The new X-Shot series in white convinces by good quality, excellent performance and low prices. Today reviewed, the Turbo Fire!

The Turbo Fire is a top prime Blaster with a 20 shot drum. Technically it is comparable to small hand blasters like the Nerf Disruptor, but with higher capacity and more power.

Unboxing

The Blaster comes completely assembled with 48 darts, which is a special trademark of Zuru X-Shot. This quantity of darts makes X-Shot blasters ideal for beginners, but their performance will convince even seasoned dartblaster fans.

Handling

The drum is loaded from the front and is immediately ready for use. Inside the 20-shot ring there are another 8 dart holders, which can be used for quick reloading, but also to confuse the other players, as it always looks as if the blaster is loaded. Zuru had a reputation in the past for designing small handgrips. In the case of Turbo Fire, however, they did a great job. The grip is comfortable to hold and the area behind offers enough space to hold the Blaster comfortably. In my tests, the toprail was basically compatible with Nerf parts, but these have to be attached from the side, which is not always easy. The Turbofire has a fixed flip-up sight, which deploys at the push of a button.

Performance

My tests showed an average dart speed of 80 fps. This is clearly the upper margin for untuned blasters. Most new Nerf blasters don’t do that well! Unfortunately, the X-Shot series uses darts that are slightly shorter than elite darts and have a very wide head. Thus all nerf darts are compatible with the X-Shot blowers, but the X-Shot darts are only compatible with frontloaders (no matter which manufacturer). Due to the high performance the darts have the tendency to break out to one side. Therefore the use of Accustrike Darts and similar Darts with heavy heads can be rewarding.

Internals

When opening the Turbo Fire, please note that there is a screw hidden under the X-Shot sticker on the priming handle. If you don’t find it and unscrew it, the blaster won’t open. On the other hand, all screws have the same length so there is no need for a screw plan. The dimensions of the plunger tube are comparable to the ones of a retaliator, but the spring is thicker and shorter. The Plungerhead is screwed and it is very easy to change the spring.

Personal Impression

The Blaster feels comfortable to hold and has some great advantages right out of the box due to the big drum and the excellent performance. The long barrel of the Blaster is not essential for the function and so is the shoulder stock. However, these details complete the look and ensure a nice weight distribution. All around a very solid Blaster
