X-Shot – Chaos Meteor

X-Shot Chaos – The Rival-Rival on the German Market Tested!

The new X-Shot Chaos series gets off to a promising start. The fully Rival-compatible blaster has much more to offer besides appealing design and innovative integrated magazines! Read more on what makes this blaster special.

Unboxing

The Chaos Meteor comes in a half-open display box with twelve Chaos Balls and a sticker sheet, as well as instructions. Instantly noticeable is the new way of attaching the blaster to the box. The Blaster is not strapped against the box with binders or the like, but screwed down with plastic screws. This enables tool-free unboxing and it has an amazing free floating look. Twelve balls are also included. Typically for Zuru, you get enough ammunition to reload – better than Nerf standards!

The Blaster and also the ammunition are of high quality. The handle is very comfortable for adult hands and has no uncomfortable edges or bars that are too tight. The Handguard, with its front bar also being the magazine, offers plenty of space and does not get int the way. The safety lock is easily accessible and can be operated with the thumb or index finger. The Blaster is largely symmetrical in the grip area and is therefore just as suitable for right-handed users as it is for left-handed users. The included stickers make it possible to decorate the left side of the Blaster to match the right side or to re-decorate the Blaster after a custom paint job. In addition, the white decorations are all glued on the Blaster, which makes optical modding easier.

Handling

To load the internal magazine, the movable pusher in the magazine is pushed back until it locks into place. Then the balls can simply be pushed into the opening of the magazine. Each ball passes a spring-loaded barrier, which makes it possible to load balls but prevents them from falling out again. As soon as the magazine is full or you just don’t want to load more balls, press the button to release the pusher and it pushes the loaded balls into the blaster, so that each one is pushed into the chamber when the blaster is primed. The advantage of this system is that you can reload at any time when there is still capacity available in the magazine, regardless of whether the blaster is primed or not. The disadvantage is balls can fall out again if you’re loading in a hurry. This can lead to the balls not passing the pusher properly and keeping it open. The capacity of the blaster for me was 5-7 balls. Five balls fit loosely into the magazine without running the risk of jamming the pusher. Another ball can already be loaded in the chamber and with some pressure, to make sure the barrier closes again, you can fit a sixth ball fits into the magazine. So there can be six balls in the magazine plus a seventh ball in the chamber.

As usual with blasters other than the Nerf series, the blaster does not feature slam fire.

Performance

In my tests the Meteor had an average performance of 70 fps using the included Chaos Balls. During the shooting test on the DinA4 large opening of the Moggihbox (more on this topic on Blasted.de), four of five balls hit the box at five meters.

However, even better was the result with the Dart Zone Ballistix Ops balls. With these balls I measured an average of 75 fps and a hit rate of 100% at a distance of 5 meters.

I would like to point out that a DinA4 sized target is generally very small for dartblasters and has become the preferred target on Blasted.de for various target-shots, as it is usually not easy to shoot that precisely with a dartblaster.

Internals

The Meteor can be opened beautifully, because all screws in the cover are the same length and you don’t even have to draw a screw plan. On the inside you will find several springs, but I didn’t have any of them flying out of the shell when I opened it. The plunger tube is quite big and everything seems to be solid enough to take a tuning spring. In addition, the plunger itself is built in such a way that the spring can be changed very easily. All in all the internals are arranged quite neatly and the space in the Blaster has been used very well. When opening, you only have to make sure that the halves of the priming grip are screwed to the halves of the shell from the inside. So you can’t remove them without opening the Blaster completely. However, this is not a problem as the Blaster can still be opened without any problems.

Personal Sentiment

I love the Meteor! It is comfortable to hold, feels sturdy, does what it should do and looks great in my opinion. The Meteor can be disassembled easily and should therefore be easy to paint. The Internals make a solid impression and seem to have a lot of modding potential. All in all a rock solid blaster that doesn’t have to hide from the competition!
