Basics: Blasters not shooting darts?

Nerf Vortex, Rival, Mega Darts, What are the differences? Learn more about blaster projectiles here!

In addition to the classic clip system darts in 12.7x70mm, there are various other projectiles available on the market. In this blog post we introduce you to whatever blasters shoot besides the well known Elite Darts.

MEGA Darts

Mega darts are also clip system darts in shape, just bigger (19,05x92mm). They are mainly used in Nerf Blasters. These darts have a little more punch than the classic small darts and are quite impressive. Also, the heads usually whistle, which is a pretty cool effect. Besides Nerf, BuzzBee had Megablaster and compatible darts and magazines. Unfortunately they never made it to Germany.

Vortex Discs

Nerf Vortex Discs are small plastic discs with a foam edge. It has been quiet for some time around these blasters but more recently there have been new releases on the US market. We have to wait and see if they can make their comeback.

Rival High-Impact Rounds

Rival was supposed to be Nerf for Teens+. Featuring soft foam balls of about 25mm diameter they perform pretty amazing. They are very well received all over the world but were never released in Germany.

However,  competitors like PrimeTime and Zuru recently introduced new models of ball shooting blasters for the German market. The Prime Time Ballistix Ops Powerball Ball Blaster is already available and Zuru’s Orbit and Meteor blasters are available as well. Both PrimeTime and Zuru balls are fully compatible with Rival Blasters.

Rockets

Over the years, there have been various blaster types with different foam rockets. The first blaster of the Elite era featuring them was the Nerf Demolisher, which is why rockets are usually called Demolisher rockets. However, there are blasters exclusively firing rockets: the NERF Thunderblast as well as the Modulus Rocket Launcher attachment.

We will see what types of projectile future holds for us. The recent past has shown, for instance, several manufacturers are trying to develop laser tags to be used in home environments and some strange blaster models, like the toilet paper blaster or the slime blaster. Seems there are still some pretty amazing innovations coming our way.
